Good price but would still except a bettter room for the price. Kazu, the owner is a nice guy!
Free breakfastdorm room was well presented and laid out - curtains for each bed a good addition.
Great and very helpful stuff. We stayed both in private room (with private shower + bathroom) and dorms, and both places are fully adequate. Short walk from Nijo castle (less than 10 minutes) and very close to convenience store/bus. 15 minutes walk from JR station. Overall: a great place!

Nice hotel for the price
The location and the staff was excellent. We felt warmly welcomed though we were traveling with 5 children ... they appreciate breakfast most ... we loved the opened mind attitude of the staff. If we ever go back to Kyoto, we surely book again here !
They had bikes to rent and breakfast included helped which was awesome!!
We got upgraded here to a 3 person private room which was nice. also has a good location very close to the station and bikes are rent-able for about 1000yen. small bathroom.
All people passing over the hostel for those days were quite nice and friendly, but breakfast was a massive crowd!!!!
I met nice people.
This place is firmly average - you get what you pay for, and it's decent value for money. Be aware that the "kitchen" is a single hotplate, and that "breakfast" is routinely cancelled.
Friendly English speaking staff, a cheap place to stay
2 blocks from bus stop. There is a supermarket nearby.
I'm not going to say that this was the greatest place I've ever been, but it has been the best money worth spending for what I got. The place is close to Bus routes and subway station. With a name like 'Kyoto's Cheapest Inn' you're probably not going to get 5 star extras, but why would you spend all your time at a Hostel suring your travels anyway? If you stay here go to LaJolla - it's a great Cali Mexican restaurant. When you walk out the door go down (in the direction towards Family Mart) two streets (count the first one as you go out) and turn right and you'll find it on your right hand side. Nice little 'whole in the wall' place.
nothing
there's a possibility of paying less money and sleeping on (rather hard) mattresses in the main room using one's own sleeping bag - ask for this option at reception, since i'm not sure whether they have it online
totally worth of money
The hostel is very nicely situated right in the middle of the town and the staff is very friendly.
Good starting point to check out the city. Near by Castle. Possibility to rent bicycles (500 yen). Wireless lan available.
Nice place to stay - with personal light and socket at your bed. Bikes can be rent, what is great!
Beds were very clean and had good curtains dividing them. Showers were pretty bad - only 3 cubicles in the reception area - dirty and smelly.
Compared to Hotel Toyo in Osaka, Hostel Kyotokko was inconvenient and expensive. For the same price in Osaka, I got a private room with AC. Hostel Kyotokko is about 15 minutes from the nearest subway station. It's not terrible, but I think there must be a better place to stay.
Staff all spoke English and were very friendly. Common area was good (but not great) for meeting people. Overall a very good experience.
This hostel was ok. Not too bad but not good! The hostel itself has no sinks or showers in the dorms (all downstairs by reception, one sink for over 40 beds). The kitchen was ok but very small and cramped especially during breakfast. In terms of location it was at least a 45 minute walk to Gion which is the best sight seeing spot especially during festival in July. However, you can get the metro but we needed to save serious money! Metro is ok for sight seeing but during a night out it finishes too early so you are left with either staying out all night or paying for a very expensive taxi!
The staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Good facilities, although let down a little by quality [clean and functional, but a little tired] Dorms were clean and beds comfortable but large at 18 people.
Safe, decent facilities, and helpful staff. Pretty easy to find.
